Elon Musk: “It Might Be Our Best Product Ever”
Tesla CEO Elon Musk has remained enthusiastic about the Cybertruck throughout its development.
During Tesla’s second-quarter financial results presentation, Musk said:
“We are still expecting to be in production with the Cybertruck in the middle of next year.”
He added that he was:
“Very excited about the product,” describing it as potentially Tesla’s best product ever.
Musk also suggested that the Cybertruck introduces significant manufacturing improvements and greater production efficiency that could influence future Tesla models.
Production at Gigafactory Texas
The Cybertruck is expected to be built at Tesla’s Gigafactory Texas near Austin, where the company also manufactures the Model Y.
The facility plays a major role in Tesla’s future production strategy as the company continues expanding its global manufacturing capacity.
Pricing Has Changed Since 2019
When the Cybertruck was first revealed in 2019, Tesla announced a starting price of around $39,000.
However, since then, inflation, rising raw material costs and wider supply chain pressures have significantly altered production economics.
Musk has acknowledged that keeping the Cybertruck affordable has become more challenging than originally anticipated, meaning final pricing is expected to be higher than first announced.
Design Updates
While the Cybertruck still retains its distinctive angular styling, several design revisions have appeared on development vehicles.
Changes include:
- A larger single windscreen wiper.
- A redesigned driver’s display.
- Conventional alloy wheels replacing the original covered wheel design.
- Further refinements to improve practicality while maintaining the minimalist appearance.
Demand Remains Strong
Following the Cybertruck’s unveiling, Tesla confirmed that hundreds of thousands of reservations had been placed.
Demand has remained high despite repeated delays, demonstrating continued interest in Tesla’s first electric pick-up.
Tesla has previously stated that its long-term ambition is to produce around 250,000 Cybertrucks annually, although reaching that production level is expected to take time.
